Valley Center is rich in natural beauty and the cover of this year’s Valley Center Community Orange Book celebrates one of those natural treasures, Hellhole Canyon Open Space Preserve. Located off of Santee Lane, Hellhole Canyon Open Space Preserve covers some 2000 acres and is managed by San Diego County’s Department of Parks and Recreation. It is a wonderful destination for hikers, equestrians, photographers, and virtually anyone who is moved by being out in a natural setting. With a running creek, stately sycamores, oaks and willows, chaparral, sage scrub, wildflowers and wildlife, the preserve is a great place to “experience”, particularly in the spring when the wildflowers splash the terrain with brilliant color and texture.
